“What is already clear is this pandemic is having a disproportionate impact on African Americans,” American Medical Association 2020 President Patrice A. Harris, MD, MA.
COVID-19 is having a disproportionate impact on the Black American community. Black Americans are infected with the disease at nearly three times the rate of white Americans. We are also twice as likely to die from the virus.
In April 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer created the Michigan Task Force on Racial Disparities through Executive Order 2020-55 to reduce health disparities within communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
