Branch Elections
Notice of 2022 September, October meetings and November Election Procedure
Dear member,
Please note the following General membership meeting for September 11th has been changed to September 25th, 2022, 4PM due to mailing issue and letters are delayed. The Election procedure notice is sent by the NAACP Lansing branch (unit 3145), for the purpose of election of officers and at-large-members of the executive committee. The October General membership meeting is postponed to October 16 in order to provide the Nominating Committee time to complete their duties.
1. On September 25, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom, there will be an election of the Nominating Committee (between 5-15 members). All members whose memberships are current as of 30 days prior to the meeting date may be elected to the Nominating committee (not more than two being officers of the unit).
2. On October 16, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom, there will be a report of the Nominating Committee, The Nominating Committee will present its report and may receive nominations from the floor. To run for officers’ position or for member-at-large positions your Membership must be in good standing as of May 1st 2022 to run for office in the branch elections, and you must live and/or work within the branch jurisdiction. Unaffiliated life members and members-at-large must additionally be actively affiliated with the Branch by May 1st , 2022. No officer of the Branch or any candidate for office shall chair the nominating process, or process receipt of the nominations by petition, or serve on the Election Supervisory Committee. All members whose memberships are current as of May 1st of the election year, and whose memberships have remained continuous throughout the election process, and who live and/or work within the unit’s jurisdiction, may be nominated for office or as an at-large member of the Executive Committee. In order to sign a nominating petition or be elected to the Election Supervisory Committee, a member must be current as of 30 days prior to the October meeting.
3. On November 12, 2022, the election of officers and at-large members of the Executive Committee will take place on Zoom. Polls will open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In order to vote in a Branch election, one must be a member in good standing of the branch 30 days prior to the election. A form of identification is required.
Should a runoff election be necessary, that election shall occur on a date to be determined within ten (10) days after the original elections.
